Frida

Everything is dark. (lights turn on and show the middle of the stage). Inside a park, an old woman is sitting on a bench waiting for something or someone, she breaths for some moments, she looks really tired and sad. (light vanishes, everything dark again).

Scene one

A young woman appears on a bed reading a magazine. She takes her mobile phone, stands up and dials a number. She starts talking with one friend. She moves around the room. She is telling her about a wonderful guy at the school, who sits next to her and who is really nice and funny. Someone knocks at the door. She stops talking and asks for the name of the person.

An old women (the same old woman which is actually her mother) replies and goes inside the room, she tells her that the food is already served. She wants to know if she would like to have some juice or wine. The young woman says she is not hungry, she just ate before coming back from school. The mother tells her that she made her favourite dish. She asks her to leave her alone because she is on the phone. The mother asks her if she is going to help her with the garden tomorrow. The daughter does not answer. The mother stares one minute and then leaves. The young woman continues her conversation but now talking about her mother. She thinks she is crazy and doesn’t understand her. She is too sentimental and too weak. She doesn’t want to be like that. She doesn’t realize that women are in a different time, being stronger and independent. she hangs up and yells at her mother ”you are not crying are you?”. She goes out of the room.

Scene: Friends

Another women appears (the best friend of Frida) talking by phone with her, she is really happy to know that Frida has been dating for some weeks and wants to know what happened during the last date. She is really excited and hopes he is the right one. It is not easy to find good men nowadays. Frida tells her that her boyfriend is a great guy too, she agrees but says that sometimes he is maybe too nice, they have been together since they were in high school and she really likes him. But some times she would love to know what would had happended if she had taken another decision.

The boyfriend appears half dressed, he kisses and hugs her. She stops her call and starts talking with her boyfriend. (Irrelevant talk here, just to know more about them, his work, her work). At the end they talk about the relationship from Frida. How the last months were and how she is every
time happier. (Here they could talk about one of Frida’s old dates that went wrong..). They both go to work after that.

Scene: Park

Everything is dark. ( lights turn on and show the center of the stage). (slow sad music sounds) The mother appears alone in the park, sitting on the bench. She looks to both sides(slowly). She takes a letter from her bag but doesn’t open it. She stares at it. After sometime she opens the letter and starts to cry. (light vanishes)

Scene: Living Together

Frida is together with the guy she is in love with, she runs and he chases her. He finally catches her and hugs her. After some everyday conversation they start talking about their future after the university. He already has a part time job as an architect and she is interested in marketing. She tells him she is really glad to be with him and the last 8 months have been wonderful, they hug and seem really happy with each other...

He asks about her mother. Frida doesn’t understands her. She doesn’t know why she keeps doing it because he will never come back. It hurts her so much to see her mother doing it (she doesn’t mention what). Her own brother coudln’t stand it anymore and decided to leave to another country. He calls
every 2 or 3 months but only to say hello. He was really sensible about all those things, more than her. Its getting late and she has to leave fast. she leaves but forgets her scarf, he picks it up, looks to the sky and think about her, he seems to be really in love.

Scene: Family matters

The mother is in the kitchen and Frida comes home from work. They start talking about trivial things and at the end of the conversation she asks her if she went again to the park. The mother answers ”you know the answer for that, you know I always go”. But Frida doesn’t understand. She tells her mother that she is hurting the familiy. ”Some day you will understand” says again the mother. Frida, this time irritated, tells her that she will never understand, She has been waiting for so much time (she starts raising her voice). Her father will never come back she left her.. she didnt love them. She needs to see it. The mother refuses to listen and starts denying eveything she says. He tells her that he was sick and he promessed to come back. Frida insists, that she didnt love them. The only thing he left was that useless letter, the one that her mother keeps always in her purse. She doesn’t know why he left but she knows that her brother left because of seeing her mother every day wating for that man. (Frida starts crying) she tells her mother that it is time to finish this. She should think in other persons not only on her self. She shouldn't be so stupid (The mother hits her)

She is really sorry, Frida cries and screams: ”what is your problem, cant you see the truth?”.. The mother starts apologizing the whole time, she doesn’t know what happened, she is trying to see the face of Frida but Frida doesn’t let her come close to her. Frida keeps screaming covering her face with her hand. Finally she tells her: ”Now I know why everybody leaves you”. (Frida leaves) ”You dont understand” says the mother and sits on a chair, ”I cant”.
(light vanishes)

Scene: Past

(Scene in the park) Everything is dark. ( lights turn on and show the middle of the stage). (slow sad music sounds). An empty bench is in the middle of the scene. An old man comes and sits on the bench, he has a newspaper and starts reading it. The mother appears after some minutes from one side. Both say good morning and the old guy starts a small conversation with her. She doesn’t seem to be interested in the conversation but he does. He tells her that she looks kind of sad and asks her if she is waiting for someone. She tells her she is waiting for her husband. He wants to know where is his husband now and tries to guess. She says no to all his assumptions and asks him to leave her alone in a rather aggresive way. She apologizes and tells him the story; one day she woke up and he was not anymore there. He left a letter saying that he was sick and he was looking for a treatment and that he will come back some day. The old guy tells her he lost his wife 10 years ago. She tells him that her husband is not dead. He can not be dead. He understands and asks her if he can make her company onthat day. She accepts. (light vanishes)

Scene: Present

The boyfriend appears in the scene together with the other two friends from the early scenes (which are at this moment already married, this will be mentioned during the dinner). They are talking about the dinner and how delicious it was. Frida comes after some minutes, she brings a cd that she is returning to her friend. During the conversation they talked about how they have been living together after she left her mother. They talked about how difficult was first to find a job doing an intership in online marketing and with the internship of her boyfriend in architecture. The boyfriend seems to be tired and they tell him that he is even losing weight. He answers he have been working too much but he knows it is rather temporal, he hopes he will get the permanent job and life will be easier. They continue talking, they laugh and drink. The men go to the living room to take some wine. The women start doing the dishes.

During this time the best friend asks Frida for a favour, she needs to borrow her boyfriend for a wedding outside the city coming next week. She doesn’t want to go alone and her husband will be out ot town because of business. Besides, she loves to dance and she knows her boyfriend dances really good. Frida has no problem for that. The husband interrupts both of them and asks her wife if she is ready to go, she gives him a plate and tells him, ”just one more”, she goes then to the living room, hugs the boyfriend from behing and tells him ”you will be mine next weekend”. He seems not to understand but she tells him, he should speak with Frida. After some time they finally leave.

Scene: Again

Everything is dark. ( lights turn on and show the middle of the stage. (slow sad music sounds) The mother appears sitting on the bench again crying... this happens really fast... (light vanishes)

Scene: Party

Frida appears at the appartment, she is worried, she calls a friend of his boyfriend he doesn’t know where he is. She tries to call her friend but nobody answers. She doesn’t know if she should call the police or a hospital.

(The doorbell rings).
Her friend appears, she looks terrified, she tells her that she has to tell her something important. She tells her she should not worry about her boyfriend, he is fine but she apologizes for what she is about to say: That night they were having a lot of fun, they were dancing and they drunk maybe too much. He didnt want to drink but she asked him to drink with her. After some hours.

He was feeling really bad so they decided to stay there at a hotel in that city. At the end they wake up together. He was such ashamed that he didnt know what to do and thats why they didnt contact her.

Frida is in shock..she doesn’t know what to say... she doesn't believe what she is hearing, she gets angry and decides to start a fight:

 -"how could you do this to me?"
 -"you were supposed to be my friend”
- "I will show you...."
the fight continues for some minutes and at the end she throws her away.

She stays there; angry but also sad. She sits at the sofa and starts crying. After some time the doorbell rings again. The boyfriend appears. She starts hitting him, he controlls her and the conversation goes like this:

-"I think your friend was already here, Im really sorry". – boyfriend
-"Why did you do that?” ”you said you love me". – Frida
-"Yes, I love you with all my heart, Im sorry”, ”please forgive me" – boyfriend.
-"But why her, why on that moment, did she make you do that?" - Frida
-"No, I decided to drink and I didnt think about that, it just happened, please forgive me”. – boyfriend (they hug)
”I do forgive you, but I can not be with you anymore”. –Frida

She leaves...

Scene: Regrets

Everything is dark. ( lights turn on and show the middle of the stage). The mother is sitting on the bench and she receives a phone call while she is waiting. Is her son, they talk for about 2 minutes but then she tells him that she is wating on the bench. He hangs out. She looks at the mobile phone, she is sad but she still waits and holds the letter. (light vanishes)

Scene: What should I do?

The daughter is lying doing in a couch in what seems to be a room for therapy.

"Already 6 months doctor, why cant I forget him, why?. I can not stop crying every night, from the moment in which I left that house my life stopped to have any value any more. Is it possible to love someone so much that our life can not be again the same. Is it possible to recover from that. Is this a
game of life, how can I be happy if I need him, but If I go and look for him, then I wont be loving myself. If I forgive him how can I forgive myself."

The doctor listens to every word and tells her that she should be patient. Time can heal anything. It is hard but it is the best if she takes time. In his experience it is hard to forgive someone and continue your life as if it never happended. But Frida continues crying.

The time of therapy ends and she walks outside, the doctors stops her. He tells her, that outside his job he is an idealist, he believes in real love. And if this is real love, he believes she will be able to overcome any error he made. Frida smiles and leaves.

Scene: Waiting

Everything is dark, the center of the stage gets illuminated, the mother appears sitting on the bench but this time, she looks as if she were freezing, she starts coughing,she looks really ill. (light vanishes).

Scene: Confrontation

Frida appears, she is knocking at a door, her old girl-friend opens it.Both are surprised. She doesn’t understand what she is doing in the appartment of her ex-boyfriend. She realizes that they are probably living together. She doesnt know what to say and she decides to leave but her friend holds her arm and asks her to stay. She doesnt want to stay but the husband of the friend comes
in to the room. He tells her to stay. Frida is at this moment really confused. They tell her to sit down, they say they have an explanation for everything, but this is going to be hard. They are kind of relieved that she is there and they dont need to continue with what is happening. The friend told her about that night, about the night when she slept with her exboyfriend.
She explains her that her boyfriend was sick, and had been sick for some time. One day before her boyfriend went to the doctor and he was informed that he had a terminal condition and he was not supposed to live for long. At most one year.

After hearing that he didnt know what to do and he decided to lie to her. He decided to trick her so that she could forget him forever, even when this could have been the most difficult decision of his life. They created that story and he make her promess never to say something to Frida. This was really hard for her also because she lost a friend because of that.

Frida can not longer stay calm, she starts asking where can she find him. They tell her that after some time at the hospital he decided to return home to spend hist last days there. So he is upstairs in his bed but he is really weak.

Frida stands up and decides to go to see him. They try to stop her but she made already her decision.
Frida enters the room and she sees him. He is kind of sleeping but when he sees her he is really surprised, He said her name and asks her what is she doing there. She starts asking him, why?, she doesnt understand why he didnt tell her... He is really sorry and he tries to apologize, he tought it would have been easier but this was not the case. Every day he was sick he was thinking

about her but he knew that she was creating a new life with a future. She tells him that even one day with him was better than all months that have passed. He asks again for forgiveness and start caughing and complaining about a pain in his chest. she tells him that he can not die, he is to brave to die, he only has to fight. They hug and he tells her he is sorry and that he loves her and he will always love her.

(light vanishes)

Scene:Memories

Both friends are dressed in black, the girl-friend is crying, she doesnt understand why all this happend. Why life can be so strange, they were really happy and some months later everything changed. She is really sad about Frida, first her mother and then his boyfriend. Her husband tells her, he can not explain what happened but life is changing constantly and every day of our lives should be lived the best way we can. Why do we always want to control our future and forget about living our present.

Scene: Resolution

Frida is now sitting in the same place the mother was. The same old guy that some day met the mother comes and asks her. If she is Frida. He gives her a letter. She reads it and it says something like:

”Dear Frida, I knew someday you will come here, Im really sorry about everything, I love you soo much... and I know that you know that. I have always been proud of you. I want to tell you the reason why I come here every day during so many years. Once in my life I loved one man and on those moments I was happiest women in the world. When he left I knew he was not comming back but I refused to let go that feeling. Because this feeling is a gift which people are always trying to find. If you ever love a man in this way and if you ever feel this kind of love, you will always have it with you. It will never die and you will discover that even when you drop many tears, those moments of happiness will inject your life with so much energy that you will feel alive...”

I love you and always will....

A man enters the scene: ”sister, we have to go now.....”.

They both leave.
